Describe the slurry, not only the liquid
List the carrier liquid, solid material, solids concentration and particle size. State whether the mixture remains suspended or settles during pauses. A low-mounted sensor may end up surrounded by settled solids instead of the normal process mixture.
A material compatibility review should include the carrier chemistry, temperature and any abrasive particles. A stainless steel description alone is not enough.
Choose a meaningful sensing location
Avoid assuming that the most convenient drain port represents the active tank contents. Review flow, sediment pockets and cleaning access. Where agitation is present, ensure the device and cable are clear of moving equipment and that turbulence does not cause unacceptable chattering.
Test across the operating cycle
Compare the mixed state, settled state, drained residue and cleaned state. Record the time needed to return to the intended empty indication. If the sensor cannot separate a coating from genuine coverage, change the installation or sensing approach rather than relying on optimistic settings.
What to confirm for your application
- Solids concentration and particle size
- Settling during downtime
- Abrasive and corrosive exposure
- Drainage and cleaning access
- Acceptable switching delay
