A practical bill of materials
| Item | Information to specify | Acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor | Full order code and output configuration | Match the label to the approved drawing. |
| Process adapter | Thread or hygienic connection, material and insertion | Verify seal position, drainability and tip exposure. |
| Seal | Material, size, temperature and chemical duty | Review compatibility for production and cleaning. |
| Cable | Connector coding, pin count, length and jacket | Verify both pin assignment and environmental rating. |
| Interface | PLC input, isolation or designed relay interface if needed | Confirm input current and switching logic. |
| Records | Datasheet, drawing, settings and requested certificates | Check exact configuration and document revision. |
A matching thread is only one check
A sensor can screw into a port while its sensing face remains inside a pocket. It can also connect to a cable whose pin functions differ from the expected PLC input. Inspect the complete assembly before treating any item as interchangeable.
Keep spares reproducible
Store the approved bill of materials with the machine record. Retain the sensor parameter set and the commissioning result. Replacing the sensor, adapter or seal may change installation behavior even when the nominal connection size remains unchanged.
