APPLICATION ENGINEERING

Level sensors for chemicals & detergents

Specify materials, process limits and switching behavior around the actual formulation.

MEDIA TO REVIEW

Water-based cleaners, detergent blends, compatible process liquids and chemical dosing ingredients

What the sensor needs to do

A formulation change may alter coating, foaming and electrical response even when the product keeps the same commercial name.

LocationControl objectiveSelection focus
Dosing day tanksLow-level warning before a dosing interruption.Identify the remaining usable volume.
Blend vesselsHigh or low product-presence signals.Test all recipes and worst-case deposits.
Transfer pipingPresence monitoring near a defined location.Check trapped liquid, gas pockets and drainage.

Installation and integration

Review compatibility for every wetted component, including the sensing tip, metal body, seal and adapter. Ask for concentration and temperature rather than accepting a chemical trade name alone. Place the sensing face where the process state is representative and where accumulated deposits can be inspected.

A representative test plan

Test the actual formulations, including concentrated cleaning solutions when the sensor remains installed during cleaning. Include the thickest residue and the minimum dielectric-response medium. Hazardous-area requirements need a separately selected approved configuration and a documented installation design.

A common selection mistake

Assuming that PEEK, 316L or titanium is universally compatible, or that a family brochure approves a standard unit for any hazardous zone.

What to include in your inquiry

  • Chemical identity, concentration and relevant safety data
  • Production and cleaning temperatures with duration
  • Pressure, vacuum and pressure cycling
  • Area classification and required order-code documentation

Choose a starting point

Review Lisen electronic point switches for a configured industrial package or Baumer CleverLevel families for a documented manufacturer selection. Selection depends on the exact medium, configuration and duty. A family name alone is insufficient to approve the application.
