POINT LEVEL SENSOR / PRACTICAL ADVANTAGE
Keep the local switching point valid through transients
A correctly specified Point Level Sensor assembly can support process detection through the expected pressure and vacuum cycle. Including transients early helps choose suitable seals and connections. This preserves the benefit of compact integration without relying on nominal operating pressure alone.
Define the pressure reference
State whether values are gauge, absolute or differential. A negative gauge pressure indicates a pressure below the chosen atmospheric reference; it is not a negative absolute pressure. Keep units consistent in the specification and conversion records. If the process uses both bar and MPa, show the basis clearly to avoid an order-of-magnitude error.
Build a duty table
List production, cleaning, sterilization, cool-down, startup and shutdown. For each state record temperature, pressure, duration and relevant repetition. Identify rapid valve operation, pump switching or thermal changes that may cause conditions outside the steady operating range. Ask the process designer for credible design conditions rather than guessing transient amplitudes from a short observation.
Check the weakest part of the assembly
Sensor body, process connection, adapter and seal may have different limits. A high rating on one component cannot be transferred to the others. Temperature can change the permitted pressure and seal behavior. Review the simultaneous operating envelope for the complete arrangement, including the mounting and any cooling-neck conditions.
Preserve the accepted design basis
Attach the accepted duty table and drawing to the quotation review. Confirm that the actual supplied configuration matches them. A replacement with a similar appearance may have a different connection or thermal limitation. Pressure testing and proof testing should follow approved manufacturer and plant procedures; do not improvise a test from a catalogue maximum. Keep sensing acceptance separate from mechanical integrity checks.
What to keep in the project record
- Gauge/absolute basis and consistent units
- Normal, vacuum and transient design conditions
- Simultaneous temperature and pressure duty
- Ratings and records for every pressure-boundary component
