Understand the flow pattern
Bulk solids can form a sloped surface, bridge above an outlet or leave a channel after discharge. Locate the sensor where local coverage corresponds to the required process condition. A sensor behind a persistent wall deposit may indicate covered while the discharge region is empty.
Check mechanical exposure
Falling product, abrasion, vibration and compaction can load the probe and process connection. A compact tip is not automatically suitable for direct impact from a filling chute. Include the grain size, bulk density and likely mechanical loads in the inquiry.
Electrical response can also vary with moisture and fines. A loose dry sample may behave differently from compacted material at the vessel wall.
Verify the empty condition
After discharge, inspect how much material remains around the tip. Repeat with the extremes of the normal product range. For dusty hazardous areas, request documentation for the exact sensor configuration and installation; a general IP rating is not a substitute for dust protection approval.
What to confirm for your application
- Bulk density, particle size and moisture
- Flow pattern and bridging
- Impact and abrasion
- Residual wall buildup
- Required hazardous-area documents
