POINT LEVEL SENSOR / PRACTICAL ADVANTAGE
Retain the process benefit when a product code changes
A new Point Level Sensor generation may add useful interfaces or settings, but the existing control task must still work as intended. Reviewing the changed code preserves the compact installation and switching behavior that the process relies on. Adopt additional functions only after verifying the exact replacement configuration.
Obtain both complete identities
Ask for the full existing order code, label photograph and original drawing, then the complete proposed replacement code and current documents. A shortened sales description can omit the output circuit, process connection or approval option. Record why the change is proposed: availability, a generation update, a feature requirement or an installation modification.
Compare physical and electrical interfaces
Review active-tip position, insertion, seal location, thread standard, dimensions and installation restrictions. Then compare supply range, connector pin assignment, transistor type, current limits, switching polarity and diagnostics. A four-pin M12 connector is a mechanical description, not a guarantee of identical signal assignments. Examine any changes required at the PLC or interface module.
Review behavior and records
Confirm default and configurable switching modes, delays, startup behavior and the meaning of any process value. Determine how the approved parameter set is transferred or recreated. Check whether the required material, hygienic or hazardous-area documents cover the new exact configuration. A certificate retained from the old unit does not automatically cover the replacement.
Close the change with a controlled test
Define which earlier acceptance tests must be repeated. Include the difficult medium states and the complete control response. Record approved deviations and update the bill of materials, drawings and spare-parts list. Keep the old and new records linked so a future purchase does not mix generations. The result should be a documented acceptance of one replacement configuration, not a blanket statement that every unit in the family is interchangeable.
What to keep in the project record
- Old and new complete order codes
- Mechanical and electrical difference list
- Settings, behavior and documentation comparison
- Retest results and updated spare-parts records
