POINT LEVEL SENSOR / PRACTICAL ADVANTAGE
Keep the same useful signal across approved recipes
A configured or adaptive Point Level Sensor can support recipe changes when its behavior has been checked for the full product range. Controlled settings make that flexibility repeatable. Keep a record of approved conditions so a successful trial becomes a practical production configuration.
Define the recipe family
Do not assume that every product sharing a name has the same sensing behavior. Composition, temperature, air content and residue can vary. Group recipes only when test evidence supports using the same parameter set. Include the cleaning products and transition states that the sensor will encounter between production runs.
Choose the configuration strategy
A fixed window, an adaptive trigger or separate parameter sets may be relevant depending on the exact device. Begin with the available manufacturer functions, then define how they will be used in the process. Adaptive behavior does not remove the need for acceptance testing. Conversely, a fixed window may be sufficient when the process states are well separated and stable.
Keep change records that can be reproduced
Record device identity, firmware where relevant, tool or IO-Link master version, previous settings, new settings, recipe range and the reason for the change. Capture the actual observed process states and outputs. Keep parameter files in a controlled location alongside the equipment documentation. A photograph of one software screen may omit settings that affect startup or switching delay.
Verify both the new recipe and the previous ones
A change that solves the most recent product problem can break a previously successful duty. Repeat the relevant covered, dry, residue and cleaning tests across the approved recipe range. Agree on who can change settings and what evidence is required before the machine returns to service. Prepare a documented rollback procedure so a failed adjustment does not lead to improvised settings during production.
What to keep in the project record
- Approved recipe range and worst-case conditions
- Trigger strategy and permitted parameter changes
- Before/after settings with device identity
- Regression tests and restoration procedure
