POINT LEVEL SENSOR / PRACTICAL ADVANTAGE
Make a simple switching task easy to maintain
A Point Level Sensor handover can clearly record the location, covered/uncovered behavior and associated control action. That helps later teams restore the intended benefit after maintenance or replacement. Keep the settings and acceptance evidence with the actual order code and installation drawing.
Capture identity and location
Record the plant tag, manufacturer, complete order code, serial number and drawing revision. Include photographs of the label and mounted assembly when permitted. Mark the sensing position relative to the process feature it protects or monitors. Keep the associated cable and PLC input channel in the same record so the physical and control-system identities remain connected.
Record the approved configuration
List supply, output type, wet/dry logic, switching window or trigger mode, delay and any startup behavior that affects the control design. For a digitally configured device, retain the parameter file and the method used to restore it. Include device description or master details where relevant. A note that the device was “factory set” is not enough if the configuration may change with a replacement generation.
Keep the test evidence readable
For each representative process state, record the observed sensor indication, PLC input and required final action. Include temperature and medium identity, especially when multiple recipes are approved. Note any limitations and conditions not tested. Separate the functional test of switching behavior from pressure, hygiene or documentation acceptance; each answers a different question.
Make maintenance practical
State the approved cleaning method, inspection triggers, spare configuration and restoration process. Identify who owns the parameter baseline and who can authorize changes. Include the response to an abnormal or ambiguous signal so maintenance staff do not need to infer the design intent under pressure. Store the handover in the plant’s controlled documentation system and update it after an approved change.
What to keep in the project record
- Device and installation identity
- Settings, parameter backup and restoration method
- Observed process states and final control response
- Maintenance method, spares and change owner
