Start at the sensing surface
An optical tip must maintain a usable optical interface with the process. Film, crystals, bubbles or opaque residue can alter its behavior depending on the design. An electronic tip has different dependencies and can be a candidate where those conditions cause difficulty, but it must also be tested with the residue that remains after draining.
Space and materials matter
Small equipment may have very little room around the sensor. Check the actual tip protrusion and the connector clearance. A physically larger replacement can interfere with pipes, covers or service access. The seal and process fitting must also be chemically and mechanically suitable.
Test both clean and aged conditions
A one-time dip test only establishes initial behavior. Repeat wet/dry cycles using the real product and the normal cleaning sequence. Observe the signal after a pause long enough for drying or crystallization to occur. Document any threshold adjustment and make sure the maintenance team can reproduce it.
What to confirm for your application
- Optical fouling mechanism in the existing installation
- Tip size and process fitting
- Material and seal compatibility
- Repeated wet/dry behavior
- Required signal and supply
