Understand what the float does today
A float responds to buoyancy and typically changes a contact state through a mechanical or magnetic arrangement. The switching height depends on the float geometry, orientation and liquid properties. Record the actual trip and reset levels before removing it. An electronic tip may switch at a different physical position even if the thread fits.
Check the electrical change
A float may provide a passive contact while an electronic device needs a DC supply and a transistor-compatible input. Do not connect a 12–30 V DC point switch directly to an AC contact circuit. Identify the load, supply and PLC input before choosing an interface.
A short tip removes the moving float, but it does not remove the need to assess coating, foam and chemical compatibility. A viscous residue that immobilizes a float may also influence an electronic sensor.
Validate the retrofit
Compare wet and dry states, power interruption and a simulated wiring fault under an approved test procedure. Check whether the new switch changes the usable tank volume between pump start and stop. If a large differential was achieved mechanically, separate level points or controller logic may be needed.
What to confirm for your application
- Existing float contact type and voltage
- Actual trip/reset heights
- New mounting depth and adapter
- Residue after draining
- Power-loss and cable-fault response
