Do not assume a level surface
Granules can form an angle of repose and move unevenly during feeding. A side-mounted sensor may become uncovered while material remains elsewhere, or remain covered by a stagnant layer. Choose the location to support the feeder or refill decision, not simply the easiest mounting point.
Include product variation
Granule size, resin type, fines and moisture can change behavior at the tip. Mixed colors or regrind may behave differently from virgin pellets. Evaluate the complete material range expected on the machine.
Mechanical impact and abrasion also matter. Keep the probe out of a direct high-impact filling stream unless the installation is designed for that load.
Test the production sequence
Run filling and discharge cycles with realistic rates. Inspect residue after the hopper empties and confirm the restart indication. If the area has a dust or other hazard classification, the selected device and installation need the corresponding review and documents.
What to confirm for your application
- Resin types, regrind and fines
- Local filling and discharge pattern
- Bulk density and moisture
- Mechanical load and abrasion
- Required environmental or hazardous-area classification
